CULTURE The people here are very warm-spirited and carry out long lived traditions in food, arts, and dance. They are known for baseball, handmade cigars, sugarcane fields, and year around colorful festivals. NATURE The Dominican Republic has a wide variety of nature to explore. Thousands of plant and floral species. There are hundreds species of butterfiles and exoctic birds to watch. This area has beautiful waterfalls, tropical jungles, mysterious caves and national parks. Several species of land mammals and of course the marine life is extraordinary with the popular humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins observed in their natural habitat. Tours are available for any type of nature adventure you may seek. HISTORY Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The capital is Santo Domingo. Avg. Temp is 77 degree Farenheit. The population is appx. 9,500,000 with Spanish being their official language, however English is becoming more popular as well. There are many museums that house years of heritage memorabilia. |
